Concentric Sky wanted to build an application that was fun, cute and light-hearted. Many of us are avid Instagram users (who isn't?) and an app that leveraged the fun, quick and delightful experience of Instagram made a whole metric-ton of sense to us. So we went at it and built ourselves an iOS app!
Leveraging an API For Amusement
We knew that Instagram had built an awesome API to allow curious, creative developers to re-imagine how to use the Instagram data set. We tapped into Instgram's API to pull down images and activity streams for specific users. People using the app can view their friends' photos, make puzzles out of Instagrams and share their completed works on Facebook and Twitter.
“This app is [...] polished, and it has [...] great functions. I like the different search features, and the timer feature makes solving puzzles very addictive.” - dippitydooda (iTunes Review)
Puzzle Me This
With InstaPuzzler you can make 9, 16 or 25 piece puzzles. You can either start the puzzle right away or choose to ferret it away and work on it later. Puzzles are fun and can range from easy to somewhat difficult. What's super cool is that the puzzles are made right away, from your friends' (or your) Instagram pictures! Get puzzling.
Sharing is Caring (About Winning)
Have a bit of a competitive streak? Yeah, we thought so. Compete against friends to complete puzzles as fast as your fingers can snap the pieces together. InstaPuzzler supports sharing on Facebook and Twitter, right from the app! Finished that puzzle in 15 seconds, but Bob at the office took 30 seconds? Tell your friends on Facebook and show Bob who's boss.
Like My Profile?
Part of the kit 'n kaboodle that comes with InstaPuzzler is your Instagram profile. Have access to all of your Instragrams, keep track of your photos, and view how many followers you've amassed. And, just to give you the option, you can log out of your Instagram account on InstaPuzzler with a tap of a button. Puzzles can be made straight from the profile view as well.
Planning, Design and Implementation
We took InstaPuzzler through the same process we use with our clients. We generated a plan to build a fun, simple app, researched the potential users and their needs, then we designed the app and its workflows. Following that, we developed the code that powers the functional compontents.
